In between Melbourne and Beijing, I stopped for 4 busy days in Bangkok
Walking around to start day 2, a group of soldiers saw me from their truck and motioned me over. They saw my water bottle and wondered if I could give them some to refresh a bag of ice water they had finished. Of course! Afterwards, they posed for this photo.
That day, Kim Carlson, who I knew casually through Rich happened to be passing through Bangkok on her way to massage school in Chenmai. We made plans to hang out and explore Bangkok together. After we met up, our first mission was to buy some of those yellow shirts that EVERYONE in the city was wearing. Here we are after our purchase.
The Thai love their King. Yellow is his official colour, so every Thai citizen we saw was wearing a yellow shirt. Kim and I waded through the streets and joined the throng in their celebration.
The locals had the day off from work and spent it walking their city. Kim and I joined them.
Everywhere we looked were giant images of the King.
Here's the king getting ready to scythe something.
The bells at the giant Buddha temple on top of the big hill. Wat Samtingorotha.
Climbing the many stairs to the Wat-top
